As a young girl , I had a dream of loving my own dachshund.I toted around a random picture ( that I took out of a magazine) in my purse .When I met my husband I was 27 , I had that picture still. One day that picture became reality when he surprised me with a dachshund puppy!

Webber was his name and he was the best but we really should have educated ourself and done some breed research. We had just bought a new home and Webber would sit so cute in his doggy bed ,but little did we know he was secretly chewing holes in the carpet .

Over the years I had kept contact with the breeder that we purchased Webber from ,one day I called her, and she began to tell me of one of her females that she was going to put down because she could not breed her anymore due to a seizure .This opened my eyes to rescue . At this point I was not going to Buffy doe so I picked her up and she became a wonderful part of our family .

As my love for the breed grew ,one day was on craigslist and saw an add about a dog named Sheriff  whose owner had passed away and was unwanted by the family.I packed up my young children and drove to pick him up from the terrible conditions he was in. We took Sheriff home and loved him ,3 weeks later he fell over in pain due to IVDD .We took him to Canada West veterinarian specialist where at that point they said there was no hope for a back surgery and his pain was too great .Unfortunately he had to euthanized. Was the hardest thing to do but made me want to help more .

That is how it all started ! I wanted to make a difference so I made the choice to help and my vision became reality !I keep my goals modest and the focus has always been on the quality of care I can provide for the dogs ,not the quantity.I realize I can not save them all however one dog at a time makes a difference and I truly love each dog that comes through our door .

Doris here with my 12 year old  chiweenie Max....I'm retired now but was working full time at a bank and commuting when I started fostering rescue dogs around 10 years ago.  I fostered for a few different rescues but stopped because I could not agree with their practices.  Then I found Angela about 8 years ago.

I was impressed then and now with Angela's dedication to her dogs and ensuring they got the medical attention they needed,  the time they needed with their fosters, and  finding the right fit for their forever home.

It's been a wild ride fostering  all those sweet dogs, doing home checks and more,  but so satisfying to watch their transition from scared insecure rescues to helping them gain the confidence and training to finally seeing them with their forever person/s .

I don't foster as often now but when I do I still am amazed that these incredible pups were surrendered, abandoned, abused or worse!  But thank goodness we were able to at least save these ones.  Every dog I've fostered has made some person or family incredibly happy - and vice versa...... And that means a lot!

Wild Thyme Dogs

Fosters

Claire, Pete and their kids live in Anmore, a semi-rural village near Port Moody and have been running Wild Thyme Dogs for 18 years. They offer family-run, kennel-free, pampered daycare and overnight boarding in their home and on two acres of forested doggy heaven! They have three dogs themselves - two of them from Doxie and Friends - and the family see every visiting dog as a member of their extended dog pack.

They’re all passionate about dog rescue and giving back to the wider community around them, and Claire has enjoyed fostering dogs for a variety of different local rescue organizations ever since she arrived in Canada in 2002. Pete and Claire are both thrilled to be fostering for Doxie and Friends and have especially enjoyed fostering the recent Soi Dogs. They’re both happy to be contacted, to share their experiences as doggy foster parents or help with any queries or difficulties.

Animals are my passion my life they give me joy. I've been working with animals for 20 years professionally. I even have trained animals for movies! I also work with exotic and endangered animals. I own a small hobby farm with 10 chickens, 5 ducks, one 40 lb sulcata tortoise, 3 bunnies, 3 dogs and 1 cat.

I manage a group home working with at-risk youth/high-risk youth and get to bring my fosters dogs to work. The foster dogs have brought them so much joy, you can see it in their smiles and eyes. This is why I foster, I enjoy to give back, observe what they need, want and watch them blossom and grow!

I have always had a huge heart for animals, as a child I continuously brought home injured birds, stray cats, and finding lost dogs. My passion for dogs runs deep and I have been fostering for 2.5 years. Fostering has consumed my life, and I wouldn’t have it any other way, I am so happy about being a part of this team!
